The Ontario Trillium Foundation
Guelph is in the “07 - Waterloo, Wellington, Dufferin” section. Arts and culture
“We invest in arts, culture and heritage activities that expand community access and involvement, build community capacity to support activities in arts and culture and recognize the role this sector plays in stimulating economic activity. We support both amateur and professional organizations in their efforts to expand volunteerism and to be more effective and responsive within their community. We fund initiatives that celebrate community heritage and diversity, expand the availability of arts and cultural events and encourage tourism.”
The centre would likely be eligible for both the “operating grants” (for ongoing cost) or “project grants” (one-time activities or activity with a defined time frame).
However, they do not fund “Municipalities with populations over 20,000 (i.e. universities) unless “they are part of a community collaborative that involves at least one eligible organization and has a clear benefit to the community.”
The MacArthur Foundation does fund organiztions interested in understanding the global context of the world. The only caveat is that the funding would likely be related to a specific project or aspect of the Centre and not to the Centre as a whole. The areas potentially related to the Centre are as follows:
Global Migration: “Through this initiative, the Foundation will support a small number of institutions and projects, with the aim of advancing three main objectives: 1) to develop improved understandings of global migration through support of policy-relevant empirical research and improved sources of data on migrant flows; 2) to encourage better governance of migration at global, regional, and national levels; and 3) to stimulate new thinking on broader issues of global human mobility. “(http://www.macfound.org/site/c.lkLXJ8MQKrH/b.1494505/k.6946/Grantmaking_Guidelines.htm)
Human Rights and International Justice: “The Foundation makes grants to selected human rights organizations that work internationally and to projects that seek to further the development of an international justice system.” (http://www.macfound.org/site/c.lkLXJ8MQKrH/b.932831/k.3FFA/International_Grantmaking__Human_Rights_and_International_Justice__Grantmaking_Guidelines.htm)
